Sixele

Sixele is an app for women at risk of gender-based violence in South Africa to log encrypted records of private information, sealed so they cannot be changed, that can be released by herself or on consensus of trusted contacts if she goes missing or for legal evidence.

Who are you here for?

This app wishes it did not exist.

We should not be telling women how to avoid danger. We need men to stop being violent. Sixele is not a solution to that. It is a response to fear, and it would rather not be needed.

Until then it does two things with care: it takes her fears seriously, and it looks after her state of mind as much as it looks after her record. It never tells her how to feel, what she should have done, or what her situation means. It asks, it keeps, and it gets out of the way.

If you are in danger now Call the police on 10111, or the GBV Command Centre on 0800 428 428. The Command Centre answers day and night.
